On Friday (October 26th), exciting news was again heard at the Politeknik Statistika (Polstat) STIS. Three Polstat STIS student teams participating in the 2018 UNPAD (Padjadjaran University) Ratio competition won medals and took home the overall title. They were Novia Permatasari and Alvian Ferrandy, the gold medalists and best overall (highest score across all stages of the competition), Muhammad Rafi' Ramadhan and I Wayan Krisnandita, the silver medalists, and Miftakhul Jannah and Eddy Junaidi, the bronze medalists.

Unlike most Olympiads, which use a knockout system, this statistics competition, organized by Himasta Unpad, required participants to complete all subsequent stages after qualifying for the first stage. In the first stage, they completed online statistics problems and had to eliminate dozens of teams until only forty teams were declared eligible to advance to the next stage. Then, in the second and third stages, they completed essay and short essay questions on mathematical statistics and probability theory, respectively. In this stage, the problem-solving process took place on the UNPAD Jatinangor campus. Next, the forty teams presented their answers to the first stage of the problem.

They didn't make any special preparations for the various stages of the competition. They admitted that one of their greatest motivations for participating was to bring honor to their alma mater. "The most important thing is the passion to do your best; winning or losing is in God's hands," said Miftakhul Jannah.

Furthermore, they hope this achievement will motivate other students to actively participate in various competitions outside of campus. Besides gaining experience, this will also help students develop and gain a deeper understanding of statistics.
